How do you succeed at life with a late start?

I know I will never be a lawyer, doctor or whatever. All I want to do with my life is to do something were I can stand on my own, and actually live. That and actually be a use to society. I feel like in my present employment I am just spinning my wheels and all that people see me as is a pusher of carts, and brooms what should I do.
