What would u do if something bad happnes to someone u love?

like if u are with someone then something bad happpnes then he said he cant be there u what would u do? he said he want to be with move iin with and have kids then his mom passed away 2 weeks ago then he just wants go give up on us. i dont think thats fair cause something happnes in everyones life and i dont think u should push away the person u say u want to be with. what would u do to try and work things out?
